Radical RX-C Turbo, 0-60 mph in 2.6 seconds, drivetrain by Quaife

With 454bhp and 500lb.ft of torque on tap from its 3.5-litre Ford Ecoboost engine, the new 175mph Radical RX-C Turbo propels the Peterborough based manufacturer firmly into road legal supercar territory.

As long term commercial and technical partners Radical relies on Quaife as it’s transmission partner and in this case the RX-C Turbo uses a revised version of the low weight, compact transverse Quaife/RPE QBE81G seven-speed paddle shift sequential unit http://shop.quaife.co.uk/81g-quaife-rpe-7-speed-sequential-ultra-compact-transaxle-gearbox fitted with gear ratios optimised to suit the new car’s high torque output.

Featuring an integral Quaife Automatic Torque Biasing differential, gear ratios are quickly and easily changed from the side of the gearbox as per current F1 design practice. The Radical in-house developed paddleshift system allows full-bore, 50 millisecond seamless upshifts on the Quaife/RPE gearbox and automatically blips the throttle for clutchless downshifts without the need to heel-and-toe.

Deliveries of the new ‘Turbo’ variant are starting soon and having sampled the previous 3.7-litre non-turbo Radical RX-C Evo magazine’s Jethro Bovingdon commented “It delivers a unique combination of a proper paddle-shift, a big-capacity multi-cylinder soundtrack and very exploitable handling. It’s a very well-sorted car.”
