Due to the never ending demands for more and more Quaife ATB differentials, we have decided to concentrate this year’s capital investments into our diff production cell. We have set ourselves a capacity target of 500 diffs per week (that’s a 5 day week, so 100 diffs per day) and considering we currently produce 150-200 per week will involve quite a few extra machines. This increase will allow us to meet the greater demands being put on us to supply Quaife ATB’s all over the world, without adversely affecting the production of all our customers other products.

Last week saw the start of this project when Mills CNC delivered a shiny new Doosan NHM 6300 milling machine. Now this is no ordinary horizontal milling machine, it is a box-guideway machine which has far superior rigidity over the more common linear (ball screw) guideway machines. This will allow us to use much higher feeds, whilst maintaining the precision we expect from all our machines. The 630mm x 630mm twin pallets will also allow us to complete all the milling ops on 5 differential body pairs for every cycle of the machine.
This week will see the final installation and training for the NHM 6300 completed and the first diffs will be coming off before the end on the month. More machines are coming so we will keep you updated as they come.
