The new unit, carrying provisional part number QBE89G, is an in-line gearbox featuring seven forward gears – a first for Quaife Engineering. The addition of an extra forward ratio compared to the conventional six fulfils a requirement from specialist sportscar manufacturers and motorsport customers demanding a transmission with ultra close ratios. This format ideally suits the demands of a front engined, rear wheel drive car featuring a highly tuned, high revving, smaller capacity engine with a narrow power band. Designed from the outset with lightweight construction and user adaptability in mind, Quaife Engineering’s QBE89G presents a number of innovative technological features, including a lightweight alloy two-piece casing that reduces overall weight to just 33 kilos. For easy installation into a wide variety of front engined, rear wheel drive machinery, the QBE89G uses a quill type input shaft. The QBE89G’s seven forward gears boast ultra close gear ratios, a modular gear cluster and an open face dog design for ultra fast gearshifts. The addition of a pair of interchangeable drop gears within the QBE89G will allow end users to easily tailor the unit to suit their needs, for example for fine tuning between racing circuits to optimise top speed. From the outset Quaife’s engineers have designed the QBE89G to run with an optional semi-automatic paddle gearchange system to maximise the transmission’s potential. Gear ratios for the prototype QBE89G are as follows:- 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th The prototype drop gear ratio is: 1.045:1 The impressive seven speed QBE89G will debut on Quaife Engineering’s stand (number 8500) at the Autosport International Show on 12, 13, 14 & 15th January 2012. The QBE89G unit will then be subject to extensive bench and real-life endurance testing and will be available as a production ready off-the-shelf customer transmission later in the year. Contact: |
