Guy qualified in the No1 position with a 10.21 second pass, with Paul Cresswell qualifying in 3rd place with 11.79.
Track conditions were fine for the 11 second cars, however both Guy and Adam Buckley were having issues mid-track with traction and the cars steering to the wall. Guy’s experience of both drag racing and the feel of a highly powered front wheel drive car alerted him to shut off immediately he felt problems, but meant that it was impossible to repeat the 9 second passes of the previous event. Better to keep the car in one piece than to take unnecessary risks.
Both CPL’s Guy and Paul won the first round of the eliminations and luckily were not drawn together in the second round. Both won the second round and so met in the final, although by this time both cars were experiencing niggly problems. Guy’s handbrake was not functioning properly and Paul’s stock gearbox was starting to show signs of failure.
On the start line in the final Guy unfortunately red lit due to him not being able to hold the car back behind the line because of the hand-brake issue. Paul over-staged and therefore went too far over the start line. In both cases this would have meant immediate disqualification however as both cars had in effect, breached the rules, the officials still had to decide on a winner. After some consideration it was decided to award Guy the win, the reasons for it are quite complex but in summary Guy had evidenced that he had covered the ¼ mile in the least time. As both cars in the final were CPL cars it didn’t really matter who was awarded the overall win though.
We are pleased to announce that at this stage in the championship Guy has maintained the lead with 840 points, and Paul Cresswell has moved from 3rd place up into 2nd place with 600 points.
The next round is at the end of August.
