Thanks to their combination of light weight, affordability and tuneability, Citroen's Saxo VTS, Citroen's C2 and Peugeot's 106 GTi have always been popular choices for motorsport users, with all three sharing the same five speed manual MA gear box.

Alas the MA gearbox is also a weak point for motorsport use, hence why renowned UK based transmission specialist Quaife Engineering has developed the ultimate in H-pattern five speed gear kits, designed to withstand the rigours of competition.

Careful design using Quaife's 3D Solidworks CAD system, allied to precise CNC machining and extensive testing have culminated in the QKE7H, arguably the ultimate in MA motorsport gear kits. The QKE7H features five gear ratios, with each gear being considerably wider than the standard MA items for enhanced durability, while the advanced ‘open face' four dog design ensures ultra-rapid gearshifts.

Quaife's technical department has placed particular emphasis on optimising the ratios for the QKE7H MA gear kit, specifically for higher powered cars using the TU5J4 16-valve engine, enabling significant performance improvements over the standard MA items.

This has been proven by Arena Motorsport's Paul Gardener who has proven the effectiveness of the Quaife QKE7H kit over the last two season's racing use in his 220bhp Saxo VTS racecar. A regular front runner in Class C of the Castle Coombe Saloons, Paul used the Quaife gear kit to take him to race wins in 2007.

“The Quaife gear kit is absolutely brilliant in the Saxo,” reckons Gardener. “It's now done two seasons, which is over twenty races and test sessions, yet it's totally unmarked when we strip it down - nothing wears out and it's been totally reliable.
